In 1815 Ausano Ramazzotti was selling wines, liqueurs and herbal products from a small shop in Milan. He had a brilliant idea to create a tonic and strengthening drink by blending gentian, cinchona, rhubarb, cinnamon, oregano, sweet orange from Sicily, bitter orange from the Curacao islands and other ingredients. Fifty years later Amaro Ramazzotti has become a national and international product.
Amaro Ramazzotti is classified as a bitter, a liqueur made of aromatic herbs originally developed for its digestive a tonic virtues but consumers consider it as a multiple purpose Italian specialty. Amaro Ramazzotti was the first bitters in the market. Amaro Ramazzotti has tested favourably when compared with its main competitor Jagermeister. Today Amaro Ramazzotti is a bigger seller than Jagermeister in Jagermeister’s home country, Germany.
